SHOOTING AT WINGOOD MANOR APARTMENTS


On November 16, 2010 at 7:06 pm., Mt. Moriah Station officers responded to a shooting at 3518 Wingood Circle, Wingood Manor Apartments, and observed a man who had been shot. The victim was transported to the Med in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the man walked out of his apartment when shots were being fired and the victim was struck. Witnesses reported seeing 2 male blacks dressed in all black clothing leaving the scene in a white Chevrolet Corsica.

The Felony Assault Bureau is in charge of this investigation.The Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this shooting.

ARMORED CAR ROBBERY

On Monday, November, 29, 2010, at approximately 8:50 a.m., Union Station officers responded to a Robbery at the Turner Dairy, 2040 Madison Avenue. Upon arrival officers discovered that a Dunbar Armored Guard was robbed of a deposit bag after making a pick-up from Turner Dairy.

The suspect has been described as a male black, wearing a long sleeve white shirt and white baseball cap, armed with a handgun and seen getting into a dark-colored vehicle that was last seen going eastbound on LaSalle Place towards Cooper.

The Safe Streets Task Force is currently in charge of this investigation. The Safe Streets Task Force is comprised of members of the Memphis Police Department, the Germantown Police Department, the Bartlett Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this robbery.

HOMICIDE AT 3214 FOREST BROOK

On Wednesday, July 1, 2010 approximately 12:46 a.m., Mt. Moriah Station officers responded to a shooting at 3214 Forest Brook and discovered the victim, Wayne Turner, a 29 year-old male lying in the back yard suffering from a gun shot wound. Mr. Turner was pronounced dead on the scene. A second victim was also shot and transported to the MED in non-critical condition.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation and the investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this Homicide.



MURDER AT 1700 PAULLUS

On Monday, June 28, 2010, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Old Allen Station officers responded to a shooting at 1700 Paullus.

Upon the officers arrival they discovered the victim, Michael Davis, 40, lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Mr. Davis was transported to The Med where he died a short time after arrival.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation. At this time there is no suspect information and the Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this Homicide.

HIT AND RUN FATALITY AT POPLAR AND ASHLAND

On Sunday, October 24, 2010, at approximately 7:35 p.m., Memphis Police Department Traffic Investigators (STIS) responded to a Hit and Run fatality at Poplar Avenue and Ashland Street.

Witnesses reported that at about 6:50 p.m., a Ford Econoline Van, Blue in color, with tag # 995- JJR, was traveling westbound on Poplar Avenue near Pauline Street in the eastbound curb lane. The driver of the van swerved to get into the proper lane of traffic when the vehicle struck a utility pole and then a pedestrian on the sidewalk of Poplar Avenue.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the vehicle drove away from the scene, continuing westbound on Poplar Avenue and last seen in the area of Fourth and Exchange.

The MPD Traffic Bureau (STIS) is currently in charge of this investigation. Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this case.

Information Sought in First Tennessee ATM Robbery

On Sunday, September 26, 2010, at approximately 11:20 a.m., Tillman Station officers received a robbery call to the First Tennessee Bank, 4330 Summer Avenue.

Upon the officers arriving on the scene they located the victim, male, 61, whom had been robbed at gunpoint by an unknown male suspect while withdrawing funds from the First Tennessee ATM machine.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect entered the ATM area, waited on the victim to withdraw funds, and then approached the victim. The suspect pulled out a handgun, demanded money from the victim, and forced him to withdraw additional cash from the ATM machine. The victim was then forced to lie on the ground while the suspect fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a male black, 6’, 180 lbs., wearing a white T-shirt, black pants, and a New York Yankees cap. The suspect fled the scene in a maroon Ford Mustang which was driven by a female suspect.

The Safe Streets Task Force is currently in charge of this investigation. The Safe Streets Task Force is comprised of members of the Memphis Police Department, the Germantown Police Department, the Bartlett Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this Robbery.



Information Sought in Hawkins Mill Murder

On Friday, August 20, 2010 approximately 3:00 p.m., Old Allen Station officers responded to a shooting in the 2200 block of Hawkins Mill and discovered Arthur Simmons, age 23, inside a gray Saturn.

Simmons was shot multiple times with a handgun. He crashed his vehicle while attempting to elude his attackers. Arthur Simmons died at the scene.

At least two suspects confronted the victim. The first was described as an African American male in his early 20's, short, with a stocky build, wearing dark clothing. The second was described as African American male in his teens or 20's, tall, thin, and had a lighter complexion. Both suspects fled in a black Nissan Maxima after the shooting.

Homicide Bureau investigators still need someone to come forward with any information that will enable them to identify the suspects and hold them accountable for this senseless murder.

Multiple Business Robberies

Between the dates of September 24, 2010 and September, 30, 2010, four businesses have been robbed by the same individual. The businesses are: Payless Shoesource, 2131 Frayser Blvd., Beauty and Beyond, 2774 Frayser Blvd., C&P Beauty Supply, 2754 Lamar, and Payless Shoesource, 2887 Covington Pike.

The suspect enters the store and poses as a customer and once he approaches the cash register he pulls out a gun and demands money.

The suspect is described as a male, black, approximately 25 years old, 5'7”, slim build, med-dark complexion, clean shaven, low haircut, and wearing a white t-shirt, white framed sunglasses, and a light colored hat.

The Safe Streets Task Force is currently in charge of this investigation. The Safe Streets Task Force is comprised of members of the Memphis Police Department, the Germantown Police Department, the Bartlett Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.



September 30, 2010

HOMICIDE AT HILLCREST APARTMENTS

On Friday, September 24, 2010, at approximately 12:45 a.m., Raines Station officers responded to a shooting at 4181 Eastwind (Hillcrest Apartments) and discovered that the victim, Martin Webster, 19 years old, had been shot. Martin Webster was transported to the Med in critical condition and died as a result of his injuries.

Witnesses reported that Webster went outside his apartment after returning home from work. The witnesses heard gunshots and Webster returned back to his apartment advising he had been shot. At this time there is no suspect information.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation and the Investigators need the assistance of the public to help solve this killing.



September 24, 2010

HOMICIDE AT HOLLINS and MERTON

On Friday, September 17, 2010, at approximately 11:44 p.m., Tillman Station officers made the scene of a shooting at 2980 Broad.

Upon arrival the officers discovered a male victim who had been shot in an attempted robbery. The victim was identified as Sultan Ameer Althaibani, 21 years old, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and witnesses were inside a vehicle at Hollins and Merton when the suspects in a 4-door gray vehicle stopped in front of the victim’s vehicle. The suspects got out of the car and approached the vehicle and attempted to rob them. The victim and witnesses attempted to flee the scene when shots were fired at them and the victim was shot.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation. Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this killing.

AUTOZONE BURGLARY

On Sunday, September 12, 2010, at approximately 3:25 a.m., Mt. Moriah Station officers responded to an alarm call at the AutoZone, 4701 Knight Arnold, and determined that the business had been burglarized and property of the business taken.

The suspect is described as a male black, approximately 5'8”, occupying a dark colored Chrysler PT Cruiser. The Burglary and suspect vehicle was captured by surveillance cameras.

September 10, 2010

HOMICIDE AT 4880 SHAYNE LANE

On Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Raines Station officers responded to a shooting at 4880 Shayne Lane. Upon arrival the officers discovered a male lying on the ground unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, Lee Brown, was transported to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition and later died as a result of his injuries.

Witnesses on the scene reported that three males approached the victim and demanded money and when the victim attempted to run he was shot.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation and the Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this killing.



August 21, 2010

Murder at 2687 Dunn

On Sunday, August 15, 2010, at 11:20 pm, Airways Station officers responded to a burglary call at 2687 Dunn.

The officers were met by the victim’s family who advised officers of a possible break in and no one had been able to make contact with the resident. Officers entered the residence and found the victim, Charles Crawford, age 62, in a closet.

CIRCLE K ROBBERY AT 3015 LAMAR AVE

On Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at approximately 2:35 a.m., Airways Station officers responded to a business robbery call to the Circle K store located at 3015 Lamar Ave.

Upon arriving on the scene, the officers were advised that 2 armed suspects entered the business, jumped the counter, and forced the store’s clerk to the ground. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register before fleeing the scene on foot.

The suspects are described as 2 male blacks, approximately 5’10”, 190lbs, 18-25 years of age, wearing red baseball hats and dark clothing.

The Safe Streets Task Force is currently in charge of this investigation. July 30, 2010

Attempted Robbery/Shooting American Inn Hotel

On Wednesday, July 21, 2010 approximately 11:06 p.m., Raines Station officers responded to a shooting at 3265 Elvis Presley, the American Inn and discovered a 18- year-old male shot inside the business in critical condition. Victim Dipesh Patel was shot and transported to The Med. Patel is listed in stable condition at this time.

Preliminary investigation shows that on July 21, 2010 around 10:55 pm, a black male described at 35 to 40 years of age, wearing a blue bandana on his face, white hat, white shirt and blue jeans approached the outside check in window and demanded money from the victim. The victim turned to run, and the male suspect fired one round striking the victim in the back. Prior to the robbery, the male suspect was observed drinking a beer in front of the hotel.

Safe Streets Task Force is currently in charge of this investigation.



July 22, 2010

Shooting at 1017 North Watkins #3

On Sunday, July 18, 2010 approximately 12:04 a.m., South Main Station officers responded to a shooting at 1017 North Watkins #3 (Watkins and Brown) where a female, Shantera Hester, had been shot twice inside an apartment. The victim was holding her 7 month old baby at the time she was shot. There were also 3 other people inside the apartment at the time of the shooting. Victim Shantera Hester was transported to the Med in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation suggests Hester does not live at the location, she was there visiting. The homeowners advised they did not have any idea who or why anyone would shoot into their apartment.

Witness advised they observed 2 male blacks run up to the apartment window and fire several shots. The 2 subjects were then observed running toward the rear of the apartment complex.

Felony Assault Unit is currently in charge of this investigation. Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this shooting.



June 24, 2010

ARMED ROBBERIES

On Thursday, June 24, 2010, the Kentucky Fried Chicken located at 2452 Jackson Avenue was robbed at gunpoint.

The suspect jumped over the counter and forced an employee to open the register and the safe while holding a silver semi-automatic handgun to her head. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash, placed it in a dark colored back pack, and fled the scene.

The suspects are described as: Suspect #1, a male black, 5'9”, 140 lbs, wearing a white hat. Suspect #2, a male black, 6'4”, wearing a red hat and red clothing.

These cases are being investigated by members of the Safe Streets Task Force. The Safe Streets Task Force is comprised of members of the Memphis Police Department, the Germantown Police Department, the Bartlett Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.



June 21, 2010

ARMED ROBBERIES

On Monday, June 21, 2010, the Game Stop located at 1680 Union Avenue was robbed at gunpoint by two individuals.

They entered the business posing as customers then pulled out a silver semi-automatic handgun and put it to the employee's head forcing him to open the registers. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash, placed it in a dark colored backpack, and fled the scene.



June 27, 2010

HOMICIDE AT 5178 BANBURY

On Friday, June 18, 2010, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Old Allen Station officers responded to a shooting at 5178 Banbury and discovered the victim, Antonio Hawkins, had been shot inside the residence. Antonio Hawkins was transported to the MED where he was pronounced dead.

A witness advised that two males came into the victim’s garage and shot the victim when he came to the door. The suspects then were seen running from the scene.

The MPD Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation. Investigators need someone to come forward and help solve this Murder. June 20, 2010

MURDER AT 929 N. MAIN

On Wednesday, June, 10, 2010 at approximately 1:35 a.m., Old Allen Station officers responded to a shooting at 929 N. Main.

Upon arriving the officers discovered that the victim, Jimmie Driskell, had been shot. Jimmie Driskell was transported to the MED where he was pronounced dead. A witness reported that Jimmy Driskell was shot after answering a knock on the door at 929 N. Main.

ATTEMPTED BUSINESS ROBBERY

On Sunday, May 16, 2010, at approximately 7:35 a.m., officers received a robbery of a business call to the Kroger Grocery Store located at 2269 Lamar Avenue.

Upon arriving on the scene, officers were advised that an unknown male entered the store and demanded an undetermined amount of cash from the register. The suspect did imply that he had a handgun. The suspect fled the scene prior to the officers' arrival.

The suspect is described as a male black, 40 years old, 6'1”, 230 lbs, dark complexion, light beard, wearing a white t-shirt and dark pants.

MURDER AT 3533 HICKORY HILL

On Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at approximately 2:55 a.m., Ridgeway Station officers on patrol were flagged down regarding a shooting in front of the Intown Suites Hotel, located at 3533 Hickory Hill.

Upon the officers arrival they discovered the body of an unknown male lying in the grass. The male was unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, later identified as Kenneth Freeman, 42 years old, was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The Homicide Bureau is currently in charge of this investigation and need someone to come forward and help solve this murder.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY SUSPECTS SOUGHT - VICTIM CRITICALLY WOUNDED

On Monday, April 26, 2010, a 45-year-old male was shot and critically wounded during an attempted robbery in the 3000 block of Dee Ann, off Germantown Road north of Bill Morris Parkway.

Two suspects, posing as cable television technicians, knocked on the victim's door and claimed they were sent to check that a proper signal was being delivered. The suspects were allowed entry. Shortly afterwards, both suspects pulled handguns and demanded money. When the victim attempted to flee, the suspects shot him.

The victim was transported to The Med in critical condition, but his condition improved and he has since been discharged. Nothing was taken in this robbery attempt.

The investigation revealed that the suspects fled in a small, maroon SUV. There may be other suspects involved. There have been no arrests in this case.

The two suspects that entered the victim's home and shot him were described as: 1) MB/ unknown age, 6'2”, light complexion, wearing tan clothing 2) MB/ unknown age, 5'8”, dark complexion, wearing tan clothing.

On Monday, March 1, 2010, at approximately 10:25 p.m., Airways Station officers responded to a shooting call at 1797 Castalia.

Upon arrival the responding officers found two male victims, Michael Owens and James Jones, on the living room floor suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both Owens and Jones were pronounced dead on the scene.

A suspect has been apprehended in the following case!

On February 21, 2010, at 8:48 am, an MPD officer was wounded in an apparent stabbing during a traffic stop in the area of Dunnavant/ Dow Place.

The female officer was reportedly checking a suspicious party in the rear of an abandoned apartment complex at which time the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the officer multiple times.

The officer was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The suspect fled the scene. The suspect is described as a Male Black, light complexion, in his 207#39;s, 5'10”-6', appx 200 lbs, brown eyes, short scruffy goatee, wearing a nylon stocking cap, black hoodie w/white scrolling on the front, baggy blue jeans and white tennis shores w/ no shoe laces.

Additional Information/Description of Incident:

Suspect is wanted for stabbing a police officer behind the abandoned apartments at Dunnavant and Dow. He should be considered armed and dangerous.



February 18, 2010

On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, approximately 9:40 a.m., Mt. Moriah Station officers responded to a home invasion-type robbery that occurred in the 1400 block of Whitewater in East Memphis where a 70-year old female and her 39-year old daughter were targeted.

One of the victims went outside to start and warm her car and was followed back inside by two unknown male suspects. At least one was armed with a handgun.

The suspects demanded and took cash and a television before leaving. During the robbery, the suspects bound the victims and made threats, but neither victim was injured. The victim’s vehicle was not taken and it is unknown if the suspects had a vehicle waiting nearby.

One of the suspects was described as a black male, mid to late 20's, unshaven or bearded, wearing a black jacket and black knit cap. The second was described as a black male with a similar build to the first suspect.



February 4, 2010

On Saturday, January 23, 2009, at 10:45 a.m., Raines Station officers responded to a hold up alarm at the First Tennessee Bank located at 4180 Elvis Presley Blvd.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect approached a teller and provided the teller a demand note. The suspect's demands were met and he left with an undetermined amount of cash.

The suspect has been described as a black male, long hair, approximately 6'1”, thin build, 170 lbs. 30-35 years old, wearing a checkered colored jacket with blue jeans and a brown hat.



January 15, 2010

On Friday, January 30, 2009, Raines Station officers responded to a shooting in the 4600 block of Millview Court in the South Pointe Townhomes.

When they arrived, Kendrick Powell, age 30, was found lying in the parking lot. He died at the scene from a gunshot wound. Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of Kendrick Powell’s death.

The investigation has revealed that Powell was confronted by a male that wore dark clothing, and may have occupied a maroon, older model boxed-shaped sedan, similar to an Oldsmobile. It's believed at least one other male, and possibly more, was in the vehicle. Residents in the area described hearing an argument followed by a gunshot, but the motive behind this murder remains unclear.



January 15, 2010

On Thursday, January 7, 2010, at approximately 8:07 p.m., Raines Station officers responded to a shooting call at the Southern Security Federal Credit Union, located at 1720 E. Holmes Road.

Upon arrival the responding officers found a male victim, Robert Rice, Sr. to be unresponsive and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Robert Rice, Sr. death has been ruled a homicide from a gunshot wound.



January 1, 2010

On Monday, December 28, 2009, approximately 1:35 a.m., a 78-year-old male was shot during a robbery in the 1200 block of Nicholas, in the Firestone and Thomas area of north Memphis.

The victim was critically wounded and transported to Regional Medical Center. He continues to recuperate at the hospital, but has been upgraded to serious but stable condition.

Old Allen Station officers and Robbery Bureau investigators responded to the scene. They learned the victim had just arrived home after closing a nearby business for the night. It is unknown if the suspects followed him home or the victim was chosen randomly by the suspects. An undetermined amount of cash was taken.

Witnesses report they heard gunshots and then saw two black males in their 20's, wearing dark clothing flee in a dark colored SUV. The suspects were armed with handguns.
